School Tour Dates Rescheduled for September 7, 2010

We are off to a great start to the 2010-2011 school year! Firstly, thank you to all of our families for attending the parent orientations. We trust that the information was beneficial to you. Many of you provided positive comments about apparent improvements in the organization and the timeliness of communication.

Our next important event is the CLAS School Tour 2010. This is the CLAS way of “breaking the ice” for the new year with you, your child(ren), and the new student advocate. The School Tour will also give you an opportunity to meet other families in your class, purchase uniforms, sign up for afterschool programs, van transportation, and wrap up any other key paperwork. Keep in mind that no student can begin school without the full and accurate completion of all necessary documentation.

This is a mandated event. Your attendance is required. You may attend the School Tour anytime after the 12:30 start time. See end times for the two sites below. You should expect to stay approximately 30 minutes. PLEASE NOTE: Due to a delay with LAUSD's delivery of furniture and deep cleaning of classrooms at both sites, the date of the School Tours has been changed. The new date for the School Tours is Tuesday, September 7.

CLAS Primary Elementary at Coliseum's School Tour will take place from 12:30 PM -6:00 PM while the School Tour for CLAS Intermediate/Upper Elementary and Middle School at Orville Wright will occur from 12:30 PM -7:00 PM.

Because of the delayed tour dates, advance information regarding before and after school care and transportation services will be delivered to you by email early this week. Be on the lookout for it. Lastly, the 2010-2011 Community Handbook referred to at the orientation will be available online only beginning Friday, September 3rd.

Continue to enjoy what’s left of the summer. See you at the Tour(s)!

READ • REFLECT • RESPOND: The CLAS Community Blog
READ • REFLECT • RESPOND is now online! The blog represents one way that CLAS is attempting to leverage technology to facilitate Community. The blog allows the advocates and others in the CLAS Community to share ideas, discuss issues, and make known goings-on relevant to the Community. It encourages interaction within the community on topics important to all of us by allowing you to communicate publicly by posting comments and asking questions about published topics. We look forward to your frequent visits here to read, reflect, and respond and hope that you will enjoy doing so.

RRR

The blog's current main post features the contents of a very well written, informative, and enlightening letter penned by Board member Marguerite LaMotte in response to misleading information abut CLAS that has been delivered to LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines by the LAUSD Charter Schools office.

Also, be sure to read Is the CLAS Half Full or Half Empty?, Dr. Hollie's thought provoking post about viewing the current state of CLAS from an affirmative perspective.

After reading be sure to reflect on both posts and, just as important, share your thoughts with the community by leaving a comment. We look forward to regularly responding to your ideas.
