It’s Game Time!
Over the next two weeks CLAS will engage in the game of its life with the testmakers of the California Standards Test (CST). We call it the Big Game, our thematic way of motivating our students to do well on this high stakes test. While the results of these tests are only a snapshot of the learning and mean nothing in the long term success of our students, they do represent the total picture that the public and the policymakers who examine these scores to make decisions that affect funding, instructional resources, and, frankly, our school’s reputation.
Last year, CLAS lost by a blowout. Only two of our classes showed academic gains. Our students performing basic and below increased substantially. That said, we have never experienced two consecutive years of declining scores. If we lose this year, it will be the first time in our 9 year history that we will failed to meet academic performance test targets for two years in a row. We intend to not allow that to happen.
Together as a community, we must support our Scribes and teachers. Support our Scribes in the coming days by encouraging them to do their best and to take this test seriously. Help them remember their big game plays and strategies that they have been rehearsing for the past few weeks. Ensure proper rest and nutrition for them approaching the test dates and during the testing window. Relieve them of any unnecessary worries or pressures as they mentally prepare for the challenge.
