Our Families

We build

Our families are our partners. CLAS understands that no one loves our children more than our dedicated care providers – parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, big sisters, and big brothers. So we seek to build powerful home-school connections that serve to strengthen the schooling that our youngsters receive. Our parent development component includes parents as important members of our learning community. Parents are provided numerous opportunities to become closely involved with others in the CLAS family to make a difference in both the school and broader community by joining CLAS Parent Organization or the CPO (cpo@cultureandlanguage.org)

CLAS has a parent participation requirement in which all families of CLAS students must contribute no less than 42 hours of volunteer time to the school. Enrolling parents in this requirement builds a sense of community among our families and a commitment to being truly involved in their child’s education. Participation is expected, not just requested. Parents are able to contribute based on special skills and areas of expertise that they possess. For instance they might contribute carpentry or plumbing skills to help enhance our facilities. Or, based on a musical talent, they perform at one or more of our many community-building celebrations. Parents with culinary skills cater these same events to feed our hungry masses. Of course, parents can also work in the classroom to assist our student advocates with creating materials, xeroxing, and more.

CLAS is proud of our students’ first teachers, our wonderful parents.
